Downton Abbey has been on TV in German, but I haven't seen anything except the trailer, although I intended to see the repeats online to see how the dubbing worked. Anyway, my old entry on the entail has been getting some attention from viewers in the USA:
I thought it was overhyped and going to be a disappointment - until I saw it! What a GREAT show. You can't look away, you know? Looking forward to season two on German TV, whenever they get around to showing it - they're rather irratic here.
In case anyone does not know it, try the film Gosford Park, where Fellowes first wrote this kind of thing. Director is Robert Altman and writer Julian Fellowes. The newer DVD is better because the EN subtitles help with the acoustics. Altman hung microphones round the actors' necks in group scenes and sometimes the words overlap. The film is also much more complex than Downton Abbey, but great fun.
